Fostering interfaith understanding and mutual respect in Mauritius.

Fostering understanding, harmony and peace in Mauritius

The Council of Religions (COR) is an interfaith non-governmental organisation that promotes understanding, harmony and peace-building in Mauritius. In a multi-cultural and multi-ethnic society, COR brings faith communities together around shared values, mutual respect and the common good.

Formally established in 2001 after several years of interfaith engagement, COR works to strengthen dialogue and encourage cooperation across religious communities. Through education, public engagement and community partnerships, the organisation helps combat prejudice, promote social cohesion and support peaceful coexistence.

At the heart of COR’s work is a commitment to building shared understanding among believers of all faiths, with particular attention to youth, community well-being and national unity.

Why COR Matters

The Council of Religions helps bring faith communities together around common values and constructive action. By encouraging dialogue, reducing prejudice and promoting peace-building, COR contributes to a more inclusive, respectful and harmonious society.
